wool price low, yet woollen blankets very expensiveHello, new member here.
I have read in the press of the very low price at present paid for wool, and the resultant hardship caused to sheep farmers.
In some cases I believe that the price paid for the wool does not even cover the cost of shearing, though this still has to be done for welfare reasons.
I therefore ask, why are woolen blankets so expensive ? In a well known store the cheapest double size all wool blanket was about £70-00!
I do of course understand that the cleaning, spinning and weaving of the wool is not a trivial matter, but its not that hard either!
Is there perhaps an opportunity for a farmers group or co-op to produce blankets? Although duvets are now more popular than blankets, some prefer blankets, and the market would doubtless expand if the price was more reasonable.
With todays enviromental concerns, and worries over oil depletion, the use of locally produced 100% renewable wool would appear preferable to imported synthetic materials.

Great marketing concept too....imagine the pr
