I had a look at the Mangalitza (not sure about the spelling) pig at Three Counties show earlier this year. They are quite large and this one had moulted quite a lot. It did not seem scary - quite gentle in fact. I don't know what sort of pork they make? Anyone keep them?

Hi
We keep Mangalitza's.
They are very docile and love human company. They will like nothing more than to roll over for their tummies tickling.
Absolutly fantastic pigs.

Hi
Tracey I too keep Mangalitzas here in France, only have swallowbellies, but with friends in Normandy we are off to Austria to collect other colours too, have a look under Market place where Kate B has posted.
I totally agree with you they are very docile, calm pigs and we are besotted with them

To answer Diane H - and by the way I am the one in Normandy!
We have not eaten pure Mangaliza yet, but have eaten Mangaliza/Tamworth cross and that was absolutely devine. The sausages were much redder than even pure Tamworth sausages, and much stronger in taste. The roasting joint we had was again very red in colour, very tasty and really succulent.
We are soon to slaughter a Mangalitza/Saddlback cross, so will let you know how that one tastes.
e haven't been able to eat the pure Mangalitza meat yet, because the litters have been sold both here and in Britanny - at chez Caroles that is.
Will keep you posted on meat progress anyway.
Incidentally, for anyone interested, we have recipes aimed at the Mangalitza meat on our Mangalitza Friends forum -
www.mangalitzafr.forumotion.net.
There is also more information about the meat of this beautiful animal. Be welcome to take a peep!
