A friend from work & I decided that we'd go fishing today. Neither of us are any great shakes at seafishing, but we decided that (as we're both on holiday) we'd give it a bash. Dave was up in the area anyway (he lives in Livingston, near Glasgow) so it was an easy choice as to day & venue Very Happy

We met up around 12 at Arbroath East Links.............the tide was out, so it was pretty much unfishable without a good long walk, so we headed a few miles up the coast to Auchmithie. Funnily enough, the tide was out here, too  (  ) so we fished the ruined harbour wall for a wee while without much luck. Squid, mussel & limpet cocktails all round, but the only action was from a few wee crabs. I left Davie to fish on, & moved onto the beach proper..................steeply-sloping shingle beach, flanked by huge rocky outcrops either side, and some sandy patches in between (I reckon there must be around a 20' tide there too) Whacked on a 2oz gripper lead, along with a Paternoster setup to keep the goodies off the bottom............didn't work though, the tide was running in so strongly it just brought the bait straight back in. Kept at it for a wee while, hoping the tide would slacken a bit (spot the newbie? )

After a couple of hours, I headed back to the harbour area thinking I'd try a bit of spinning. Still no joy, but lots of fun anyway

Finally the tide had started to ease off a bit, and I moved back to the beach to try my luck with a shad again.........The beach must slope away about 40 degrees or so, and the waves were breaking quite nicely about 15 yards out, so I thought maybe chucking the lure over the back of the breakers (with Karls tip in mind!) would land it on top of some feeding bass, or whatever else was out there. Not a sausage, but the place just felt 'fishy', if you know what I mean!

Definately a place to do some more research on, and I'm certain there are good fish to be had just offshore. I can feel a trip to an angling emporium for a beachcaster outfit coming on! Very Happy

I remember doing a spot of fishing in Nairn near Inverness about 8 years ago  and I never caught anything either. Laughing  It was such a lovely spot that you don't really mind.
